“Rights for Gays” by John Maus on Love is Real.

John Maus, a regular in Ariel Pink’s lineup, has composed two albums since 2006. The original, modestly entitled Songs was lo-fi glory. His second release (I refuse to say Sophomore, it’s obnoxious. What do you call a prolific band’s fifth album? First year of grad school?) entitled Love is Real is arguably more in the direction of what people would consider musical. There are lot of great gems on both albums, but it’s hard to deny the simple and, perhaps more powerful therefore, message from this song.
